CodePath’s Internship Connection Program Kicks Off for Fall 2022

CodePath is excited to welcome a new student cohort and company partners to join our Internship Connection Program (ICP) this fall. The Internship Connection Program supports Computer Science students who self-identify as Black, Latinx, and Indigenous in securing their first junior-year technical internship.

Thanks to our new premier sponsors, Nutanix and Mutual of Omaha, as well as Alteryx, Appian, Bentley Systems, Bill.com, Docusign, Haven Technologies, and Verisk Analytics, the expanded program will now support 100 students from universities nationwide.

These student demographics often lack access to the network, resources, and support needed to land a competitive role. According to the 2019 Student Survey Report from the National Association of Colleges and Employers, data shows they are the least likely to secure a paid internship during college.

Now on its third run, the ICP was created by CodePath in January 2021 to address this issue directly and furnish URM students with the skills they need to land career-making opportunities before graduation. Across the 8-week program, students engage in professional and technical skill building and are supported by the CodePath team, including career and technical interview coaches.

Our company sponsors form a vital part of the program, demonstrating their commitment to CodePath’s mission of diversifying tech through workshops, supporting students in building a professional network, and direct recruitment for upcoming internships.

Gabriela Gonzales, now a Senior at Columbia University, completed the ICP last year and secured a summer internship at Alteryx. She credits the ICP program with helping her structure her applications and ultimately land a role:

“My parents are immigrants, and I didn’t have the privilege of having family or a network with connections in the industry, so I felt like I had no idea how to approach my job search. I was applying and even interviewing, but something wasn’t working. Once I joined ICP, I got access to many helpful resources and support. There was one application tracker resource that really helped everything click for me, and I realized I had to have a structured approach to my job search. I learned that rejection is part of the process, but I had a network to help me navigate that now. Not long after that, I got the internship offer with Alteryx.”

With an 80% completion rate and 76% of students securing an internship, CodePath’s ICP has a proven success record. The next run will take place in 2023, with limited spaces available for companies looking to develop and engage with early-stage diverse talent.
