Empowering the Next Generation: Esther’s CodePath Volunteer Experience

The following account was shared by Esther Goldstein, Software Engineer at Salesforce and CodePath Career Center Volunteer.

I first heard about CodePath’s Resume Review Week back in 2021 through a Slack channel at my company, and I knew I had to get involved. I couldn’t help but remember how much I benefited from resume reviews during my college years, and felt compelled to pay it forward by helping current university students on their path to success.

My journey with CodePath began with Resume Review Week, but it quickly expanded to participating in the Technical and Behavioral Mock Interview Weeks. This experience has been incredibly rewarding, not only for the students I’ve had the pleasure of mentoring but also for my own professional growth.

One memorable moment that stands out was a mock behavioral interview where I was deeply moved by the stories a student shared about their journey into computer science. It felt more like a heartfelt conversation than an interview, and it reinforced why I enjoy volunteering—seeing the excitement and energy in these aspiring tech professionals is truly inspirational.

For anyone considering volunteering at CodePath, I can’t recommend it enough. The time commitment is minimal, yet the impact is profound. With just a 30-minute or hour-long session, you can help set a student up for success in their job or internship search. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to expand your community and connect with people you might not otherwise meet.

Esther-Quote-3xVolunteering with CodePath has also enhanced my own skills. Although I had never conducted interviews before, this experience has allowed me to learn and grow, while also refreshing my coding and algorithm knowledge. The support from CodePath is exceptional, with detailed guidelines and practice questions that make preparation straightforward, even for those of us with busy schedules.

Volunteering with CodePath isn’t just about giving back; it’s about being part of a community dedicated to empowering the next generation of tech talent. And for me, that’s what makes the experience truly special.
