The Challenge
Developing Early Talent
Workday’s internship program is a key part of its long-term workforce development strategy, with 75% of its entry-level tech hires coming from internship programs, typically offered to juniors. However, many students from low-income and underserved backgrounds face challenges that lead them to leave computer science before reaching their junior year.
To help more students develop in-demand skills and access career opportunities, Workday became the inaugural employer partner of CodePath’s Technical Immersive program, also known as the Summer Internship for Tech Excellence Program.
Through this partnership, Workday connected with thousands of CodePath students who often face barriers to entering the tech industry. Among those selected for the program, 74% came from low-income backgrounds—underscoring the program’s role in expanding access to technical careers.
The Program
Access, Mentorship, and Support
High-level
During the 10 weeks, students were introduced to full-stack web development, gaining an understanding of database, back-end code, front-end code, testing, design, and deployment.
Day-to-Day
Each day, students participated in team meetings and workshops, with CodePath instructors available for 1:1 support.
Mentorship
Each student is paired with a Workday employee who acts as their mentor throughout the program. Many students keep in touch beyond the program, building their professional networks for the very first time.
