CodePath hosts first national virtual demo day

Written by CodePath | May 7, 2020

College students across the US presented their iOS mobile app innovations to Capital One, Intuit, Palo Alto Networks, Twilio and Verizon

On Saturday, May 2nd, 84 computer science university students attended CodePath’s first iOS virtual demo day on Zoom. After 12-weeks of grueling classes and intensive projects, students from California, Delaware, Indiana, Michigan, Texas and elsewhere came together to present their final projects to a panel of engineering professionals and CodePath team members.

Organized by CodePath’s technical program managers, Guillermo Ignacio Sanchez Lamas and German Flores, in collaboration with the universities’ local CodePath tech fellows, the community was undeterred by the disruptions from Covid-19 and determined to celebrate their achievements.

“It was a great experience being able to connect many students and professionals in one space,” said Guillermo. “Many students lack technical guidance in their projects while in college, but I believe Demo Day will change that by providing students a chance to connect with professionals and receive real-world feedback on their projects.”

“Being able to showcase a project you’ve worked on is such an accomplishment. We wanted to make sure students felt that satisfaction of crossing the final finish line so we were eager to host this event to show that CodePath truly values their students,” said German.

From creating a marketplace to sell college textbooks to other students, to designing a social media app catered to pet owners and animal breeders, and to learning Morse code, 24 teams from Delaware State University, Michigan State University, Notre Dame de Namur University, Purdue University, and Texas A&M University, presented a range of mobile applications. Each team shared a short presentation about the identified problem and solution, while they showcased their apps via the iOS simulator and gifs.

After receiving feedback from companies, such as Capital One, Intuit, Palo Alto Networks, Twilio and Verizon, the following winners were identified:
